Feb. 11, 1997 - 2 flounder (13 - 16-in.) and 2 large (16-in.) yellow mouth trout @ B/C corner.  Keepers all.

Feb. 12, 1997 - Night fishing, quarter moon @ the corner of Delta and Echo Piers.  Kept  4 yellow mouth trout between 14 and 16 inches long.  Released or gave away 4 others, 12 to 14 inches long.  Mild temp., moderate wind, and overcast sky.

Feb. 15, 1997 - Hooked a nice flounder (appx. 2-lb.) @ Bravo/Charlie corner, but the knot on my treble, trailer hook failed, and I lost him.  Cold, windy, and rain - went home skunked.

Feb. 17, 1997 - 15-in./1.5-lb. flounder @ B/C corner on a white jig with a pink tail, during a falling tide.

Feb. 18, 1997 - A 14.2-in. flounder @ B/C Pier corner, during the last quarter of a falling tide.  Sunny, clear, with a moderate N.E. wind, and a water temp of 58-deg. F.  Released the fish.

Feb. 19, 1997 - Yellow mouth trout biting well just before dawn @ B/C corner after the cresting tide.  No wind - beautiful morning.  Had to leave to clock in at work.  Landed only 2 fish (biting short) released everything.  Fast action.

Alec Newell's Fishing Log

When fish are 'biting short' or nipping the tails off of your plastic grubs, this rig will solve the problem.  Tie the treble hook trailer or 'stinger' far enough back to keep it from foul hooking the jig tail.  photo by Newell

Feb. 6, 1997 - Caught 4 trout, 1 flounder @ juncture of Bravo and Charlie Piers.  Kept the 3 biggest trout and released the smallest trout and the flounder.  Both throw-backs were legal size (12-in. long) fish.

Feb. 7, 1997 - 2 trout, 1 flounder @ B/C corner.  Released or gave away everything.

Feb. 8, 1997 - 1 sea bass (small) @ B/C Pier corner.  Got run off by base Security for fishing from the dock after dark.

Feb. 10, 1998 - Picked up a 16-in. flounder just before lunch @ B/C Pier corner, using a white, pink tailed jig with a treble hook trailer (see image at top of the page).  The fish had the primary hook and two tines from the treble trailer struck in his mouth.  Looked like he'd just left the orthodontist's office.  Blackened him on the grill tonight - DELECIOUS !!!
